Jaganmohan Reddy arrested by CBI in assets case

in the disproportionate assets case. He has been arrested under sections 120, 409, 420 and 477.

Initial reports suggest that he was taken to CBI custody at 7:15 pm. He is likely to be presented in the Nampally CBI court tomorrow where the CBI is understood to seek judicial custody. The arrest was made after the investigative officials were not convinced with his replies in the disproportionate assets case.

The arrest comes after three days of continuous grilling by the CBI in the assets case. Jagan had claimed earlier that he is likely to be arrested and there was a Congress and TDP conspiracy behind this move. The YSR Congress spokesperson has also backed this claim after the arrest. The party has also alleged that the CBI is being misused.

Security has been tightened in Hyderabad and Kadapa after there were reports that there might be a law and order situation in case of an arrest. Meanwhile, Hyderabad police have already clamped Sec 144 in the city foreseeing trouble in the area.

Jagan and his loyalists fear that the arrest will act as a underhanded move by the Congress and the TDP to postpone the by polls scheduled to be held on June 12.
