UPA Ministers
New Delhi, May 22: With the UPA celebrating its third anniversary in power, there seem to be more brickbats coming its way rather than bouquets. With the UPA allies at loggerheads and the UPA having no credible achievement to boast about, the Opposition is making no stone unturned to add insult over injury. The BJP, on this very day, has claimed that the government may fall any time as the coalition partners were unhappy and were not even ready to break bread together.

On the occasion of the anniversary, the UPA was hosting a dinner. Key UPA ally Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress and Karunanidhi’s DMK have decided to boycott the dinner. This is the second year in a row they have decided to skip the celebratory dinner.

The BJP’s stand was revealed during a discussion on the issue at the party's Parliamentary meeting where they spoke on Mamata’s decision to skip the UPA dinner hosted by PM Manmohan Singh. The BJP stated that the three years of UPA regime would be written in "black letters."

BJP spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain spoke on the issue and said, “It's allies are not happy with it. A leader of the ally party does not even want to eat food together. You can imagine the state of affairs... The UPA is not even in a position of eating snacks. I wonder what would be the flavour of the dinner hosted to celebrate the three years of completion of government. The completion of three years of UPA regime will be written in black letters.”

Further stressing on the possibility of the government’s imminent downfall, Hussain added, “This government can anytime...(fall). The government claims to have a total majority of 272, but the actual figure seems 227 as even its allies are not happy with it."

The party also listed out the "failures" of the present regime. The meeting also saw senior BJP leader LK Advani lauding MPs for their good performance in the Parliament’s Budget session. Hussain commented on this, "The party has been able to put the government on the backfoot on many occasions during the current session.”
