Italian marines denied bail by Kerala court

Kollam (Kerala), May 19: The Kollam sessions court that was hearing the bail petition of the Italian marines accused of shooting down two Kerala fishermen has denied bail for the accused duo. The bail was denied citing that accused might influence the witnesses. The verdict comes at a time when hectic parleys were on between Staffan de Mistura, Under Secretary in the Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry and Thiruvananthapuram Latin Archbishop Soosai Pakiam.

The chargesheet against the two accused marines was filed in the Kollam court on Friday. Hectic negotiations were on as Staffan de Mistura met with CM Oommen Chandy to facilitate a speedy trial for the Italians.
