Manchester City win EPL, United finish second

By Sreekumar
Manchester, May 14: Manchester City finished as winners of the English Premier League for the first time in 44 years by scoring two goals after the regulation 90 minutes had ended.

Until then, it was looking like Manchester United would emerge as champions. The more fancied of the two teams from Manchester got the better of Sunderland AFC by just one goal but the win fetched them nothing more than the runners up position.

City and United went into their respective final match of the league, knowing fully well that a slip up would hand the title to the other team. Both had the same number of points, 86, but Manchester City had a better goal difference.

And that proved to be extremely crucial. When the referee blew the final whistle in the Stadium of Light, fans of Manchester United got ready to celebrate as City were still trailing 1-2 to Queens Park Rangers at that time. However, Edin Dzeko first scored the equaliser in the second minute of injury time before Sergio Aguero scored the last gasp winner.

It left those who had all along rooted for City delirious with joy and United supporters a heartbroken lot.
For football lovers across the world, it marked the most dramatic finish ever to the EPL. Even City Manager Roberto Mancini concurred with them. "To win it like this is incredible. I have never seen a final like this," he said.
