Gen VK Singh-Anna Hazare
New Delhi, May 14: With Indian Army Chief General VK Singh nearing his retirement from the coveted post as Army Chief, offers of a different sort seem to be pouring in for the firebrand leader. In a tumultuous journey that became especially controversial during the fag end of his career, Singh has got an invite from none other than Anna Hazare to join his anti-corruption movement after his retirement.

Anna has been quoted as saying, “We will welcome Gen VK Singh, if he wants to get involved in this national movement after retirement." The message was brought out through Twitter by Team Anna member Suresh Pathare.

With Gen Singh yet to give his response on the invitation by Anna, the move is sure to cause tremors within the political circles. Singh had shot to the limelight recently after his stunning bribery claims for clearing the Tatra truck deal and deficiencies in the Indian Army’s preparedness in the event of war. His revelations had also prompted the government to fast track the modernisation plans by the Army. He had also exposed the massive corruption within the Army ranks.

Gen Singh has over 40 years of service and will retire on May 31 when he turns 62 on May 10 as per his service record. The next in line to become Army Chief is Lt Gen Bikram Singh.

Earlier, Team Anna members Arvind Kejriwal and Kiran Bedi had also supported General VK Singh’s fight against the government.
