WB: Hillary's Bengali gift to Mamata full of mistakes

Kolkata, May 10: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's gift of Rabindranath Tagore's picture on a piece of cloth to Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee hogged the limelight after it emerged that the song embroidered on it in Bengali contained many spelling mistakes.

This came to light when photos of the mat were published in newspapers.

"Its the pride of Bengal," Mamata had said, holding up the gift, at a press conference immediately after the meeting.

"She has given me this... aguner poroshmoni choawo praney. She even remembered the great song," Mamata pointed out.

According to reports, not only are there some spelling mistakes the song is also embroidered wrongly.

The lyrics of the song goes like "e jibon purno koro" but in the gift "purno" has been spelt as "dhonno" and "rhinno".

Meanwhile, protestors have opened an online petition and sought an apology from the US Embassy in Delhi for the spelling mistakes in the song. They demanded that the necessary corrections be made in it.
