Mayawati spent Rs 86 cr of taxpayers money to renovate home
The details came out in response to an RTI query filed by Shivpal Yadav, Samajwadi Party leader, before his party came into power.
Mayawati's residence spread across five acres of prime land in Lucknow. She was given the residence in mid 1990s, according to reports.
After taking over as the Chief Minister of the state, she spent lavishly on upgrading the house. The house includes a huge statue of Mayawati, a bullet proof verandah, a 14-room guesthouse, the symbol of her party (elephant) and huge granite walls.
Shivpal Yadav, who is now in charge of the Public Works Ministry, has ordered an enquiry into how the money was released to her.
