Celebrities take Rajya Sabha seats casually?

By Ria
New Delhi, Apr 30: It has been found that the celebrities accept the Rajya Sabha nominations and they fail to attend the regular House proceedings.

According to the Rajya Sabha reports, legendary actress Shabana Azami had secured the highest number of attendance during her tenure as Rajya Sabha member, while playback singer Lata Mangeshkar and painter MF Hussain secured the minimum attendance.

Since 1952, 15 out of 118 members of Rajya Sabha nominations are from different art fields, including Vajayantimala Bali, Prithvi Raj Kapoor, Nargis Dutt, Pandit Ravi Shankar and Hema Malini.

However, Shabana had attended 113 out of 170 sittings, Lata attended only six sittings during her tenure and actress Hema Malini, who was nominated as the Rajya Sabha MP, attended only 50 out of 127 sittings, as claimed in Rajya Sabha reports.

Meanwhile, Congress led-UPA government has nominated Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and film actress Rekha for the current Rajya Sabha seat.
