Bangalore: IPL match, TV remote costs student's life

Bangalore, Apr 26: A television remote proved costly for a student at Acharya Institute of Architecture, Bangalore after a brawl over IPL match erupted between him and his friend.

Richard Loitam, the victim from Manipur, succumbed to his injuries after suffering a cerebral haemorrhage in his sleep, hours after his fight with his fellow mate.

Reports reveal that Loitam was allegedly punched on his head by his hostel mate. They also failed to alert the hostel authorities, it said.

"He had a fight and got a punch on his face, cut on his head, went to sleep and never woke up," said Syed Raza, Richard Loitam's friend.

"My son was badly injured, which is proved by the photograph. It is not possible to climb the double decker hostel bed on his own. He was so badly injured, he must have cried out for help. Where were his roommates? The warden in his FIR said that they had a quarrel at 8 pm. At 10:30 pm, he went back to his room. From 8 pm to 10:30 pm, what were the college authorities doing? Why didn't they take him to hospital immediately?" questioned his mother, a doctor by profession.

"There was a brawl, we have no reason to cover up this. It is a case where one of our students has suffered, we too want justice to be delivered," said Acharya Institute of Architecture Dean Vasanth.

Meanwhile, more forensic reports are awaited.
