Farooq is now placed in an isolated cell. He was arrested on Sunday by the police.
According to jail sources, the inmates planned to attack Farooq well in advance for the "heinous crime" soon after the report of Baby Afreen's death broke out.
"Hardened criminals serving sentences here do not approve of cold-blooded murders, particularly those who take the lives of innocents such as infants. Such criminals are boycotted by other convicts. But even we did not expect they would assault Farooq," said a source from jail administration.
Reports reveal that earlier too jail inmates attacked a man for killing an elderly person for gains.
"This time, the inmates identified Farooq and the news spread like wildfire. We have brought the situation under control now," added the source.
Baby Afreen fell victim to her father's abuses as he wished for a boy.
Meanwhile, a report in the Bangalore Mirror contradicted the story saying that it was not Farooq who was beaten but another inmate. He entered the high-security area and started abusing the jail officials, said the report.
