IBF Secretary General appointed Dy Chef-de-Mission for Olympic

New Delhi, Apr 9: Indian Boxing Federation's Secretary General Brig PK Muralidharan Raja will be the Deputy Chef-de-Mission of the country's contingent in this year's London Olympics after being nominated for the job by IOA.

"I am pleased to nominate you as Deputy Chef de Mission of the Indian contingent participating in the XXX Olympic Games to be held in London, from July 27 to August 12, 2012," IOA Secretary General Randhir Singh said in a letter sent to Raja.

Brig Raja will be deputy to former hockey captain Ajit Pal Singh, who has been named Chef-de-Mission.

Brig Raja has been an International Technical Official (ITO) of International Boxing Association(AIBA) and was a referee and judge at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games as well as many World Boxing Championships, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and other International Boxing Competitions.

A former Secretary of the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) and Chairman of Army Sports Control Board (ASCB), he is presently the Commandant of Army Institute of Physical Training in Pune.

The IOA has sent a letter to the SSCB notifying them of Brig. Raja's appointment and seeking the necessary departmental clearances.

"...Brig PKM Raja of your department who is an Executive Committee member and Secretary General of Indian Boxing Federation has been nominated by the IOA to represent India at the Olympic Council of Asia pre-DRM meeting of the 30th Olympic Games -- at Kuala Lumpur from April 27 and 29," the IOA letter, signed by Randhir, stated.

"As Brig PKM Raja is nominated as Dy Chef de Mission of the Indian contingent for London Olympics, 2012, it is imperative that he attends the above meeting of OCA and LOCOG.

"You are requested to obtain necessary departmental clearances at your end at the earliest to facilitate Brig Raja to attend the OCA and LOCOG meeting at Kuala Lumpur on due dates," it added.
