Bangalore: Mother explains how father abused baby girl

Bangalore, Apr 9: Three-month-old Afreen is fighting for her life in a government hospital in Bangalore and now her mother and grandmother have come up with the story explaining how her (Afreen's) father abused the baby girl, though the accused refused to accept all allegations against him.

Afreen's father Umar Farooq has been taken under police custody following the legal complaints lodged against him by his wife Reshma. Farroq's wife, while stating about the incident when she caught Farooq abusing the baby, claimed, "When I got up at night, the baby was covered with a blanket and there was cloth in her mouth. And a pillow was on top of her. I asked my husband, 'What happened?' He said, 'I put a blanket on her, put the pillow beside her. She might have moved the cloth into her mouth."

However, while Reshma was doubtful in filing the case against her husband, Reshma's mother claimed that Farooq has been torturing her daughter since their marriage for dowry. Farroq's atrocities reached its peak when Reshma gave birth to a baby girl, Afreen.

Recalling the incident, Afreen's maternal grandmother, Majboor Bi chided, "After the baby girl was born, he started giving trouble. It is an innocent child. How could he find it in his heart to do this?"

The baby bore cigarette burns on the forehead, and posterior and her neck was dislocated. The hospital authorities claim that the baby is suffering a haemorrhage and her condition is critical.
