Gandhi statue defaced: Sri Lankan govt orders probe

Colombo, Apr 8: The Sri Lankan government has instructed the police officials to investigate into the vandalisation of Father of nation Mahatma Gandhi's statues ‎in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lankan foreign ministry told the reporters "It has been brought to (our) notice that several important statues in Batticaloa town had been vandalised."

While the government has asked for an "an immediate and thorough investigation" into the incidents to search the defendants.

The attackers had destroyed the statues of Gandhi and the founder of the Scout movement in Britain, Robert Baden-Powell. Even the statues of local figures were vandalised by the attackers, police said.
