Yeddy loses hope on Gowda;pegs Shobha Karandlaje for CM post
Sources have claimed that Yeddyurappa might soon float a proposal to elevate Shobha as the proposed CM and the candidate of his choice.
Yeddyurappa had earlier campaigned hard to make her the CM, when he had to quit the CM post following reports of his involvement in the illegal mining row following the Lokayukta report coming out. The party, however, shot down the idea and was not too happy with the decision.
It has been reported that it was Karandlaje who proposed Sadananda Gowda's name for the CM's chair, who also hailed from the same town of Puttur. She believed that he would be a "pliable follower" and will step down on being asked to by either Yeddyurappa or Karandlaje.
With the reality far from it, factionalism came back to the fore when it was time for Yeddyurappa to reclaim his chair with Gowda not ready to let go. With Yeddyurappa inviting BJP legislators for a breakfast meeting at his residence on Friday, it remains to be seen if there are plans for another political high drama ready to be staged in the state.
With his incumbent, Sadananda Gowda not succumbing to the arm-twisting tactics of Yeddyurappa, it is only fair that Yeddyurappa will be seeking consensus to portray his choice of CM. Yeddyurappa has meanwhile stated that the breakfast meet does not have any political implications. The gag order by the BJP high command on both factions will also see a mellowed down drama playing out this time around.
With the chances of Yeddyurappa getting back the CM's chair not likely, he wants to push Karandlaje as the CM. She is likely to have party backing since she climbed the party ranks from the RSS. Yeddyurappa also intends to propose Jagadish Shettar's name as the Deputy CM to appease the Lingayat community.
