New Delhi, Mar 27: Yet another scam has emerged, this time around from Karnataka and is touted to be bigger than the 2G spectrum scam that rocked the country. The scam is surrounding the illegal encroachment of over 22 thousand properties of Wakf Board land that was sold over the last decade. The stunning fact was revealed by the State Minorities Commission. [UPDATE: Wakf land row: Not BSY but bigger than 2G scam kills K'taka CM?]

The estimated loss of the scam is considered to be Rs 2 lakh crore. In an interview to a popular TV channel, Chairperson of the State Minorities Commission, Anwar Manippady stated that many top politicians were involved in the scam. There are reports that the Minorities Commission has named 38 Congress leaders.

Among the politicians who have been accused of land grabbing charges include former Union ministers CK Jaffer Sharief and CM Ibrahim, deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha Rehaman Khan, former Karnataka ministers Roshan Baig and Qamar-ul-Islam, Shantinagar MLA NA Harris, Mysore legislator Tanveer Sait and JD(S) leader Iqbal Ansari.

The 7,500 page report has already been submitted to Karnataka CM Sadananda Gowda. Sources have revealed that the reports will be submitted in the Assembly in a day or two. The report apparently points fingers at Wakf Board functionaries who is believed to have helped transfer the land to private individuals and institutions over the last 11 years.

The report adds that 85 per cent of Wakf board properties were misused in Bangalore alone.
