Bangalore, Mar 22: D Venkatesh, a 28-year-old footballer who was playing with Bangalore Mars Club, met with a tragic end on Wednesday, Mar 21. During a football match with South Western Railway, Venkatesh collapsed on the ground and later he was declared dead.
Venkatesh collapsed in the practice session during the match which was played in Bangalore football stadium. Questions have been raised about the medical attendance and treatment given to the footballers.
The referee of the match, A Lawrence pointed at the inaction of the medical team presented on the ground. Lawrence has been quoted as saying, "He (Venkatesh) came on with five minutes or so left on the clock but just collapsed soon after. He was treated on the field; I asked for the stretcher to be brought on and he was carried off."
Venkatesh was rushed to Hosmat Hospital but he was declared dead on the arrival. His father claimed that Venkatesh did not complaint about any illness while leaving home for the day.
However, angry mob started ruckus in the stadium after being informed about Venkatesh. The crowd hurled chairs and projectors on the ground. Later police interfered and managed to control the situation on the ground.
