Chennai, Mar 19: DMK supremo M Karunanidhi on Monday, Mar 19 called off his scheduled hunger strike on Mar 22 after the Indian government said it aimed to vote against Sri Lanka on a war crimes resolution, said reports.

The former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister made the announcement soon after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made it clear in the parliament that the centre will support the US-backed resolution against Sri Lanka ahead of the Human Rights Council (HRC) meeting in Geneva.

Moreover, DMK supremo also cancelled the DMK leadership meeting to be held on Mar 20 in connection with Sri Lanka issue in Chennai.

The DMK has been insisting the Congress-led UPA government to support the US-backed resolution against Sri Lanka in the Human Rights Council (HRC) meeting to be held in Geneva later this month.
