Dehradun, Mar 13: Vijay Bahuguna sworn-in as the new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand on Tuesday, Mar 13. Bahuguna faced protest during his swear-in ceremony when 17 rebel Congress MLAs decided to boycott the function.

Meanwhile, the former CM Harish Rawat offered to resign as the agriculture minister. According to sources, BJP president Nitin Gadkari on Monday met Rawat. Citing the shocking revelation, many started speculating that BJP with help of the rebel MLAs may hit a big blow on the Congress government.

Harish Rawat was considered a strong contender for Uttarakhand CM's job. He was apparently ignored after the Congress chose MP Vijay Bahuguna to be the CM. Ghulam Nabi Azad, Union Minister and Congress leader who is in charge of forming the government in Uttarakhand said, "It was decided by party MLAs and all leaders that Vijay Bahuguna will be the chief minister."

Supporters of Rawat have gathered outside his residence and shouting slogans against the High Command's decision to choose Bahuguna over Rawat. Ghulam Nabi Azad is understood to be engaged in discussions with Rawat to convince him to withdraw the resignation.
