Bangalore-educated man to join Barack Obama administration

Bangalore, Mar 11: American President Barack Obama has named Bangalore-educated Dr Sonny Ramaswamy as the Director of National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), one of the premier institution of agricultural sciences in United States.

Dr. Ramaswamy earned his B.S. and M.S. in entomology from the University of Agricultural Sciences in Bangalore, India and done his PhD in Entomology from Rutgers University.

Currently, Dr Ramaswamy is Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences at Oregon State University and Director of the Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station. He was the Associate Dean of Purdue's College of Agriculture and directed the University's agricultural research programs from 2006 to 2009.

Prior to joining the Purdue faculty in 2006, Dr. Ramaswamy was head of the Department of Entomology at Kansas State University from 1997 to 2006, where he held the title of Distinguished Professor.

Moreover, Indore-educated Paula Gangopadhyay was named member, National Museum and Library Services Board.
