K'taka policemen at the receiving end; to protest peacefully
The events on Mar 2 was ugly with the lawyers resorting to violence against mediamen, police officials and students. Following the brawl, several policemen were injured, including a DGP.
The lawyer community in the state intends to hold a massive protest march on Friday at the City Civil Courts Complex for the negative depiction of the community in media channels and on the police atrocity against them. [Read: Lawyers on rampage, media become sitting ducks again]
To drive home their irk, the Bar Council went against the Supreme Court directive and boycotted court proceedings. They also demanded that the 4 arrested lawyers be released immediately. The Karnataka High Court has also issued notices to the Union government, the state government, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and the electronic media.
The PIL filed by the Advocates Association of Bangalore had alleged that that there was only a one-sided coverage of the clashes.
