Mayawati
New Delhi, Mar 7: It was a sad day for former Uttar Pradesh CM Mayawati. In what can be called a fall from grace, she submitted her resignation to Governor BL Joshi on Wednesday marking an end to her tumultuous term as the CM of UP.

Speaking to reporters after her stunning defeat in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2012, she appeared calm and said that her government brought about significant changes in the state. She added, "Uttar Pradesh was in bad shape when I took over as the CM of the state."

In a direct attack at the UPA leadership, Mayawati also stated that the Congress-led UPA government did not help the UP government. Talking about her defeat in the polls, she said that the Muslims had voted in favour of the Samajwadi party only to keep the BJP at bay. Mayawati slammed the Congress saying that they had played Muslim quota politics in the state.

Expressing hope that the Bahujan Samaj Party would come back to power in the next assembly elections, she said, "The people of the state would get fed up with the bad governance of the upcoming SP government and they would vote her back to power."

Mayawati's BSP was only able to win 80 seats in the 403 assembly constituencies. She had managed to garner 206 seats in the 2007 assembly elections.
