BJP sweeps in Goa; Cong blames family raaj for poll rout

Panaji, Mar 6: The Congress has been routed in beach state of Goa as well. With early indications that the BJP is going to sweep in the state, the Congress representatives in Goa has started on their blame game and has slammed the party's decision to allot 33% of seats to the kin of sitting legislators as the reason for the party's stunning defeat.

Mauvin Godinho, a former election campaign chief of the Congress has been quoted as saying, "Everyone knows which issues I was raising. You know what they are. The issue of family raj was most crucial which I think the people have not liked." The latest Goa results : BJP+ 16, Cong+ 7, Others 5.[Catch live Goa updates here]

Meanwhile, former CM Manohar Parikkar, who retained his Panaji seat with a good margin looks like he will finish first in the race for the CM's post. The results put an end to the political stability in the state and can be seen as a a strong anti-incumbency wave for the Opposition BJP.

Among the major upsets include Joaquim Alemao, minister in the Digambar Kamat government. Churchill Alemao's daughter Valanaka Alemao also lost in her debut elections in Benaulim, south Goa.
