Earthquake shakes North India, New Delhi
The epicentre of earthquake was Bahadurgarh in Haryana. The tremor was also felt in other parts of Uttar Pradesh including Lucknow. Several places in Rajasthan, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh also experienced the tremor which lasted for more than 10 seconds.
However, no reports on casualty or damages have been reported yet. Meanwhile, sources informed that a parallel earthquake with 5.1 magnitude was reported in Indonesia, Sumatra island. The tremor in the island was felt at around 12:15 pm (Indian time) on Monday.
People in Delhi informed that they rushed out of their houses and offices soon after the tremor. People were afraid that another earthquake might be felt. Meanwhile, sources from Gurgaon informed that office buildings in the city have been told to evacuate following the tremor.
Recently, an emergency mock drill was conducted in the national capital to make people better prepared for all kind of natural calamities including earthquake. Many metro stations were shut and simulated situations were also staged like collapse of flyovers, crack in metro pillars, damage to hospitals and collapse of residential buildings due to the imaginary 7.8 magnitude quake in Delhi.
