Lt Gen Bikram Singh to be next Army chief

New Delhi, Mar 3: The Congress-led UPA government on Saturday, Mar 3 announced that Lt Gen Bikram Singh, the current General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Kolkata-based Eastern Command will be the next chief of army after Gen VK Singh retires.

Meanwhile, intelligence agencies has given a clean chit to Lt Gen Bikram Singh dismissing all allegations levelled against him.

Lt Gen Bikram Singh was commissioned into the Sikh Light Infantry Regiment in 1972 after finishing his course in the National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy, much like General VK Singh.

Gen Singh is also a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, the Higher Command Course at MHOW and the US Army War College, Pennsylvania, USA.

Earlier, on Feb 10, the Supreme Court had given the decision that current Army Chief General VK Singh's date of birth in records need not to be changed. He will have to retire from his post on the due date of May 31 this year.
