Shocking revelation: Woman gets HIV from Andhra blood bank
Moreover, the 19-year-old mother has been abandoned by her husband and the society after they learnt of women's HIV infection.
The woman got infected by HIV after receiving blood from an Andhra Pradesh blood bank operated by the Indian Red Cross Society during her delivery time on Nov 3 last year.
Soon after delivering the baby, she got high fever and started vomiting. She was taken to a nursing home where the doctors got her blood tested and confirmed HIV positive.
After a preliminary inquiry conducted by Joint Collector Sourav Gour, it was found that the woman got infected by HIV from the contaminated blood taken during her delivery. The Collector has asked the district medical and health officer to seize all records of the blood bank and shift the stocks to the government hospital for inspection.
Currently, the woman is living in a house given by AP government under the Indiramma housing scheme, but the authorities haven't taken any step to provide medical care to Haseena and her child.
Meanwhile, the government have asked the health department and the Red Cross Society to submit a report by Mar 15 and ordered the police to register a case against the blood bank.
