Midnight crackdown: SC bashes 'guilty' Ramdev, Delhi police
However, the apex court also bashed cops saying that the midnight swoop on the yoga-guru and on his followers was "un-constitutional." The court also announced Rs 5 lakh for the family of Rajbala, who got injured during the crackdown and later died in a hospital. People, who were injured at Ramlila Maidan following the attack by Delhi police, will also receive Rs 50,000, said the Supreme Court.
Here it can be recalled that a bench of justices B S Chauhan and Swatanter Kumar had reserved the verdict on Jan 20. Ramdev had alleged the police action was carried out on the instructions of their political masters and demanded action against all people who had directed the mid-night crack down.
Ramdev was agitating along with his followers against corruption and demanding that the UPA government must make sincere efforts to bring back black money illegally parked in secret foreign bank accounts by tax evaders.
Delhi Police had claimed Ramdev had instigated his followers to indulge in violence, forcing the police to act at that time of the night.
