Fishermen death: India, Italy none ready to compromise

New Delhi, Feb 22: A meeting took place on Wednesday, Feb 22, between the two senior officials of India and Italy over fishermen's death has ended with no headway.

The two Italian naval guards were arrested in Kerala for their alleged involvement in the murder of the two Indian fishermen who were guarding an Indian merchant vessel last week off the coast of Kochi.

Preneet Kaur, India's junior minister for foreign affairs met Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Staffan De Mistura "Two innocent lives have been taken," she said. "The law will take its own course."

In the meeting, Italy said that it was a mistake by India that they arrested the guards. While, India reacted on Italian officials' comment and said that the country will go by the laws.

According to the Italian officials, action should be taken by Italy India's action is "unilateral and coercive." But India claimed that the incident took place within its water so action should be taken by India.
