AP:Jagan lashes out at Cong;highlights the plight of weavers
While addressing his ‘Cheneta Deeksha’ in Dharmavaram town at Anantapur district, he brought weavers' problems into perspective who earn meagerly Rs 50 a day.
Pointing at the suicides committed by the handloom weavers, Jagan said, “The situation of weavers in the state is pathetic."
While mentioning about the lopsided increase of 80 to 200 per cent in the raw material of handloom saris, Jagan questioned the government about the limited earning of weavers further asking, "Is the government aware of weavers suicides in the state or not ?"
Recalling former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy's loan waiver package of Rs 312 crore for the weaver community, Jagan blamed the government for its failure. He also chided Telugu Desam Party chief Mr N Chandrababu Naidu for destroying Janata sari scheme initiated by former Chief Minister NT Rama Rao in favour of the handloom sector.
