Swamy accuses Sonia of providing covert support to LTTE

Mahinda Rajapaksa-Subramanian Swamy
New Delhi/Colombo, Feb 11: Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy is at it again when he made yet another ballistic comment. This time around Swamy stated that Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa should be awarded India's highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna, for exterminating LTTE.

In a comment that has all the potential to spark off a controversy, Swamy made this comment during an interview with a newspaper. He stated that since Rajapaksa was the person responsible for eliminating the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) that was an anti-India outfit, he deserves India's highest civilian honour.

Till now only two non-Indians have been awarded the Bharat Ratna, they are Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan and Nelson Mandela. They were awarded with the highly coveted award in 1987 and 1990 respectively.

Swamy also took the opportunity to slam Sonia Gandhi and said that "Sonia Gandhi and her Italian family provided covert support to the LTTE." Swamy was in Sri Lanka during a private visit and has been known for his wrath against the LTTE. [Read: Swamy throws a porn-bomb at Chidambaram on twitter]

In an earlier instance, Swamy had called President Rajapaksa a "determined and resolute leader". He added that the defeat of the LTTE was in no means an indication of the defeat of the Tamils, as a minority in the country.
