UP Polls: Setback for Congress, EC rejects minority quota ad
According to sources, Congress sought the Election Commission's permission for its advertisement campaigns on the minority sub-quota and MNREGA for Uttar Pradesh, but it was reffered to the the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) to take a decision over the matter.
The advertisment on MNREGA was however, cleared by the EC but the same on the minority sub-quota was not cleared by the commission.
A top EC official confirmed the fact that the Election Commission cleared the MNREGA advertisement. Congress had submitted the audios for the advertisement along with the video advertisement.
After the advertisement was disapproved by the EC, Congress is trying to make changes in the sub-quota advert and launch the same ahead of the first phase of the UP elections that is scheduled to begin at Feb 8.
The Election Commission, earlier asked the UPA government to put hold on Muslims sub-quota till the elections got over in the five states.
