2G: Chidambaram's D-day marked - Saturday, 12:15pm
The petition filed by Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy had grabbed eyeballs when he mentioned in his plea that Chidambaram had to be made accused in the 2G spectrum scam. At close to 10am the special CBI judge allowed only the petitioner, Swamy to enter the court room and conveyed the message and asked him to come back before 12:30pm.
Speaking to reporters waiting outside court, Swamy said, "I have been asked to be present in the court before 12:30 PM. I can say that I am confident that the judgement will be delivered today."
Sources within the court stated that the judge may deliver the verdict around 12:30 pm.
Swamy argued that Chidambaram was equally culpable as former Telecom minister A Raja who is believed to be the mastermind behind the 2G spectrum scam. The Supreme Court in a historic court ruling had cancelled as many as 122 2G licenses that were awarded during Raja's tenure.
The verdict by the court is sure to have huge repercussions for the Center and its credibility. The Supreme Court verdict was made by a bench comprising of justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly. They had also refused to direct CBI to "investigate Chidambaram".
Swamy shining his arms against Chidambaram had commented in the morning today, "No one is above the law. Chidambaram has lot of answering to do before the court. I have submitted all documents against him...2000 pages. I am confident that justice will be served."
