K'taka: Fresh scam; CBI asked to submit report on BEML case

Bangalore, Feb 3: The CBI has been directed by the Karnataka High court to submit a progress report on Feb 6 on the investigation conducted against the officers of the BEML Limited over the charges of alleged inflated sales of Rs 894 crore.

In a petition filed by K Subramanyam Sastry, Justice N Ananda passed the order. VRS Natarajan, Chairman and Managing Director of BEML Limited, and other functional directors of the company's names are included in the case.

After the first information report, the CBI had begun investigation and it had named S. Venkatesan, General Manager (Internal Audit); BR Viswanathan, the then General Manager (Marketing); and S Venkataraman, the then General Manager (Marketing and Finance).

The Comptroller and Accountant General of India's report was pointed out by the petitioner that the company had inflated its sales figure during 2005-08 even though no such sale was made in reality.

CBI has filed a FIR against the accused officers, who benefited from the inflated sales figure.
