UP: Ponty Chadha's money gone; Maya's empire tumbling?

Lucknow, Feb 2: It seems that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's empire is tumbling as her friend Gurpreet Chadha alias Ponty Chadha's booty was seized during the income tax raid on Wednesday, Feb 1.

Contradictory media reports state that the amount of money recovered ranges between Rs 4.5 crore to Rs 200 crore. Citing the outcome of the raid, many started speculating that it might be a major setback for Mayawati ahead of the crucial assembly election in the state.

It has been reported that Mayawati gets financial aide from Chadha, who also has been fetching political support in developing his business empire in Uttar Pradesh with the help of the BSP supremo.

Chadha, who is also a liquor baron, began his journey from a small liquor shop before trying his hands on real estate, multiplex and succeeding in all his ventures. Chadha is also believed to have a strong hold in the film industry of the country, especially of the industry in Uttar Pradesh.

According to sources, Mayawati, after being appointed as the CM of the state, gave sugar mill to Chadha for only in Rs 200 crore while the real value of the mill reportedly was much bigger than that.

Associates of Chadha believe that when the liquor baron will reach India (according to sources, Chadha currently is in Dubai), he will manage to save his sinking empire. However, it seems that Mayawati may not get any further facilities from Chadha.
