Pune, Feb 1: A row between Jawans from the College of Military Engineering (CME), Dapodi and police took an ugly turn after the Jawans allegedly thrashed the police in a fit of rage over the violation of traffic rules.

According to police, trouble started brewing after a Jawan was stopped by the police on Sambhaji Bridge, Deccan that ran into a no entry zone.

The Jawan then returned back with one of his friends and roughed up the police at a nearby outpost, said the police. The Jawans, who were dressed in civil clothes, also broke the cameras of media persons who rushed to the spot.

According to Sanjay Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner of Police, the Jawans abused and assaulted the police and the matter was being looked into.

"We will not tolerate any indiscipline," he said.

So far no action has been taken against the Jawans. The assaulted traffic police include two woman police constables.

The Army working in damage control mode said that strict action would be taken against the Jawans if found guilty.
