Pseudo cop swindles Rs 65,000 from techies

Chennai, Jan 31: In a bizarre incident, a man posing as a cop, swindled Rs 65,000 from recently engaged software engineers in Chennai.

According to the police, the techies were in their car with the windows closed on Lodhi Khan Street near Pondy Bazaar, Chennai when the fake cop with a flashlight in hand banged on the door.

When the techies opened the window, the pseudo cop claimed that he had found them in a compromising position. Soon after, the boy got down and told the cop that they were getting married in a month and had gone there to buy cloths.

Police further revealed that the fake cop sat at the back side of the car and asked them to drive to the police station. Meanwhile, the couple apologised to the cop for the incident, but accused remained set in the car. The techie began to drive, few minutes later man asked techie to stop the car near an ATM.

A compromise was made between the man and the techies there as the accused promised not to act in the case if they gave him money. The victims, who feared the incident would become known to their family members, accepted the deal and gave Rs 65,000 to the fake policeman. After accepting the money, the man vanished from the place, added police.

Later, when the victims told the incident to their friends, they advised them to lodge a police complaint. At the police station only, they realized that they were cheated. Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the man and cops are on the hunt.
