Hospital
New Delhi, Jan 27: Delhi police detained three persons in a child abuse case in which they allegedly abused a 2-year-old baby girl. Now police informed that DNA tests will be done on the detained persons to prove their roles in the case.

Police have already uploaded the picture of the baby in ZIPNET, a network of police forces in five northern states. They are also trying to gather more information about the baby who was admitted in AIIMS on Jan 18 and has been battling with death.

The child, Falak is suffering from severe head injuries and was brought to hospital in a state of coma. She had human bite marks all over her body and her cheeks appeared to be brandished with a hot iron rod.

The baby was brought in by a 15 year old girl who claimed to be the child's mother. The police said that the teenage girl has been sent to a juvenile home.

Sumit Sinha, an associate professor of neurosurgery and one of the doctors treating Falak has been quoted as saying, "The baby has been unconsciousness since the day she was admitted but she is showing signs of recovering. She has a fractured skull and there is blood clotting on the right side of her brain. It appears that either her head was smashed against a wall or she suffered a blow from a heavy object. Her left hand is fractured while there is swelling on her right hand. There are human bite marks all over her face, forehead and right leg."

Falak is on ventilator support and her chances of survival are dim. Adding to it, she also suffered two cardiac arrests in the last 3 days. Sinha added on the child's condition, "On Jan 18, when the child was admitted she was in coma. Her surviving chances are very low due to her severe brain injuries. It might take more than a month to drag her out of her unconsciousness. A team of around eight doctors are attending to her."

The teenage girl who admitted the child said to hospital authorities that she lived along with her husband Rajkumar Gupta in a paying guest accommodation in Mahipalpur area of south Delhi. The matter was revealed by Nirmal Thakur, spokesperson of AIIMS Trauma Centre.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Chhaya Sharma, however, stopped the girl after her story was found to be suspicious. Sharma stated that a case of kidnapping, abandoning a child below the age of 12 years and causing hurt has been registered against unknown people.

According to Sharma, the girl had gone missing from her home in Sangam Vihar area of south Delhi last year and her parents had also lodged a complaint on this. The police officer revealed that she had eloped with someone. The baby was in the custody of the girl since last 20 days, with the police trying to probe how the baby got there.

After initial questioning, the girl apparently told the police that the baby was bruised when she was stopped from running around. She added that the baby also slipped in the bathroom afterwards. Sharma said that the whereabouts of the child's parents have not been found yet.
