Law college students held over attempt to burn Kalam effigy

A P J Abdul Kalam
Coimbatore, Jan 24: Twelve law college students were arrested here on Tuesday when they attempted to burn the effigy of former president, A P J Abdul Kalam, in protest against his support to the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant.

The students, who were carrying the effigy, were stopped near the District Collectorate by a large number of policemen, police said. However, one of the students managed to set it afire, which was immediately put off, police said.

Kalam has sought to allay fears over the safety of the KNPP project, saying there is no need to worry about its safety aspect and has insisted it is needed for the development of Tamil Nadu's economy.
