Ex-CIA charged for leaking information to media
John Kiriakou, 47 served as the Central Intelligence Agency has been accused for protecting the identity of US intelligence services and revealing the names of two CIA agents.
Quoting Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr's statement, “Safeguarding classified information, including the identities of C.I.A. officers involved in sensitive operations, is critical to keeping our intelligence officers safe and protecting our national security.”
On Monday, a criminal complaint has been registered in Federal court against him for revealing confidential information. From the investigation on that issue, it has been found that the defence counsel for AI Qaida suspect Abu Zubaydah presented a brief of the classified information that was not released through official sources, Justice department stated.
Even the investigation revealed that Kiriakou allegedly passed information to media, then the reporter passed the information to an investigator of Zubaydah's defense team.
