SC Bose was scientist, environmentalist, says Jairam Ramesh
Addressing a gathering on the occasion of Nataji's 115 birth anniversary in Kolkata, Ramesh said that "Netaji was a versatile genius whose many other facets have sadly been not studied much. We mostly know his contribution as a nationalist but people need to know about his immense contribution to the country as a planner, scientist and environmentalist."
"Netaji's thoughts were far ahead of his time and still continue to be relevant," the minister said.
"His association with (astrophysicist) Meghnad Saha and (engineer and statesman) M Vishveshwariya not only contributed towards the creation of the Damodar Valley Corp but also the need for and use of developing scientific temper." Ramesh added.
In view of his birth anniversary, the West Bengal government has declared a national holiday today.
He left for his heavenly abode on on 18 Aug 1945 after he allegedly died in an airplane crash and sustained injuries.
However, no actual evidence has been found on how he died. Various committees have been set up by the Indian government to find out more on the mysterious death of Bose.
