Ranchi trying to copy Kochi's governing system?

Kochi, Jan 22: Kerala is high in literacy rate even the state have a good governing body, so Jharkhand is taking a leaf out from Kerala. The state visited Kochi to learn about decentralized system of governance. A team of 55 council members from Ranchi Municipal Corporation on Friday held a discussion with the Kochi Corporation.

"The Municipal Act was recently enacted in Ranchi and they are here to know more about the governance of local bodies. They also discussed implementation of various development projects carried out by Kochi Corporation," said B Bhadra, deputy mayor.

Kochi Mayor, Tony Chammany and the heads of various standing committees met the Ranchi councillors. "They discussed management of various development issues like health, roads and waste management in the city," said Patil Ajith Bhagwatrao, corporation secretary.

Patil clarified that there will no agreement between the two civic bodies. After visiting Kochi, the Ranchi councillors left for Alappuzha.
