Abdul Kalam in Sri Lanka to promote peace

Colombo, Jan 21: Former president A P J Abdul Kalam is in Sri Lanka on a mission to promote peace and harmony in the country. Kalam arrived at the Colombo Airport last night on a 4-day visit to the country, officials said on Saturday.

He is expected to deliver two lectures, one this evening at the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies titled 'Ignited Mind of Youth is a Great Resource for the Nation'.

The second of the lectures will be conducted tomorrow at President Mahinda Rajapaksa's official residence 'Temple Trees' on his trilingual initiative which is aimed at fostering communal harmony in Sri Lanka. Kalam is also expected to visit a camp for the internal displaced people of the north in the country's north.

He has declared his aim was to promote peace and goodwill. He is the second Indian dignitary to visit Colombo within a week. External affairs minister S M Krishna concluded a 4-day visit to the country on Thursday.
