The shocker came from IOA itself, when the Vice president of IOA said that ‘there was no opposition to Kalmadi’ and added that he was free to join as the chief of the body in spite of his role in the multi-crore CWG scam. He is alleged to have siphoned off precious tax payers money through kickbacks and shoddy work.
With Kalmadi getting a hero's welcome upon his release, he is expected to cash in on the short term memory of the common man when it comes to scams and corruption.
Kalmadi was released on Thursday based on two sureties of Rs 5 lakh each. Apart from him, former OC Director General V K Verma was also granted bail. Kalmadi, Verma and nine others were charged with awarding contracts to a Swiss firm to install a Timing-Scoring-Result (TSR) system for the Games at an inflated rate that eventually led to a loss of Rs 90 crore to the state exchequer.
