Lucknow, Jan 17: Ahead of the crucial Uttar Pradesh assembly election, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra started her campaigning for Congress in the state. On the second day (Tuesday, Jan 17) of her tour in UP, Priyanka stated that she will join active politics if Rahul Gandhi - her brother and AICC general secretary, asks her to do so.

Citing Priyanka's statement, people started doubting, "Is Rahul Gandhi stopping Priyanka from entering Indian politics?" However, Priyanka did not leave any space for controversy to be raised. She, while her campaigning in Amethi and Rae Bareilly on Tuesday, was quoted as saying, "(I) will campaign in Amethi and Rae Bareli right now. I will do anything Rahul wants me to do. (I) haven't decided yet on joining active politics. If Rahul wants me to campaign, I will campaign." [Read: Cong-star Priyanka Gandhi overshadows Rahul in UP poll]

Here it can be recalled that US cables released by Wikileaks had revealed that Gandhi family preferred Priyanka Gandhi over Rahul when it came to entering politics. But it was their mother Sonia Gandhi (an Italian but still like an "Indian mother") who reportedly chose Rahul over Priyanka as heir apparent. Now Priyanka Gandhi's statement in Uttar Pradesh regarding Rahul Gandhi's permission has once again paved the way for controversy.

Meanwhile, sources said that Priyanka will attend meetings with Congress party workers, though it was reported earlier that no meeting and rallies were scheduled for her in the state. Priyanka will stay in Uttar Pradesh till Jan 18.

Now it will be interesting to see how Rahul Gandhi will be benefited by Priyanka's entry into the UP politics ahead of the assembly election. According to experts, this time the two most prominent competitors for Rahul are - BSP supremo and present UP CM, Mayawati and SP leader, Akhilesh Yadav.
