Rahul Gandhi with Digvijay Singh
New Delhi, Jan 17: Ahead of the crucial assembly poll in Uttar Pradesh, a petition, filed in a court in the state, might be proved as a major setback for Rahul Gandhi and Digvijay Singh. The two prominent leaders of the Congress might have to resign over the issue.

The petitioner, who has been identified as Jitendra Singh, moved the court seeking resignation from the two Congress leaders stating that the duo had hurt the religious sentiment over the Batla House encounter controversy.

According to the petition, Digvijay Singh, during Rahul's poll campaigning in Azamgarh on Jan 10, raised the controversial issue and thus hurt religious sentiment as the case (Batla House encounter) is still pending in an another court.

Here it can be recalled that Digvijay was quoted as terming the the Batla House encounter as "fake".

The whole controversy over the Batla House encounter raised when a Delhi Police Inspector, Mohan Chandra Sharma and two terrorists were killed during the fight between police and militants in the national capital at Batla House on Sep 19, 2008.
