Railway ministry likely to hike passanger fares
"There is definite case to re-look at the fares, which have not been touched for eight years," Trivedi said.
However, Trivedi expressed concerns to poor saying "the poor should be kept in mind." Furthermore, railway minister hinted a possible fare hike in air conditioned coach while the ordinary fares would be same.
It is also learnt that, railways were also considering a suitable model as raising funds alone was not a solution as the interest of the poor has to be kept in mind. Earlier, Railway ministry had claimed that they will consider a dynamic pricing policy for passenger fare.
Meanwhile, the proposal of hike in fares was not finalised yet as it was not cleared by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, who constantly opposes the fuel price hike, which was later rolled back, as well as FDI in multi-brand retail.
