New Delhi, Jan 12: School children seem to have become very cautious about their health. A group of students of a private school in the national capital moved the Delhi High Court seeking ban on junk food and aerated drinks.

It seems that school children would not mind saying no to their loving burger, pizza and soft drinks like Coca Cola, Pepsi and many more.

Seeking the response of the central government over the issue, High Court Chief Justice AK Sikri and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw on Wednesday, Jan 11 asked the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India to file its response on the petition.

According to the PIL submitted in the court, the students forum demanded a ban on junk food and aerated drinks in and around all schools in the national capital.

"FSSAI is directed to consider the issue in six months. It may invite the All India Food Processors Association and restaurant associations for consultation and development of guidelines," said the court on Wednesday.

Citing the court's order, it seems that junk foods and aerated drinks soon would be banned for school children in Delhi.

"It is... time we change the way kids eat in schools. Such a ban will set new standards for healthy food. On the one hand, children are taught in classroom about good nutrition..., on the other, we continue to make junk food available to them," says the PIL filed by Rahul Verma and Rakesh Prabhakar of Uday Foundation.
