Mullaperiyar: Jaya's memorial for engg upsets Karuna again
"As there was nothing to announce yesterday (Monday), a decision on memorial for Penny Cuick was announced by the chief minister," he said.
Amidst all hue and cry over the raging Mullaperiyar issue between Kerala and Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa on Sunday had announced her decision to set up a memorial for Cuick.
"I am happy to announce that a memorial to thankfully remember Cuick will be built at a cost of Rs one crore and over 2500 sq ft at the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board premises in Lower Camp. Upon its completion, Cuick''s grandson will be invited for its inauguration," J Jayalalithaa had said in a statement, adding that a statue of the engineer will also be set up there.
Karunanidhi during his tenure as the Chief Minister of the state had erected a statue for the engineer in 2000 in Madurai.
Talking about the relief announced for Thane cyclone hit people, the DMK supremo said that only announcement by the Chief Minister of seeking Rs 5 crore from the Centre and allocation of Rs 850 crore would not amount to their implementation.
The raging issue has been a subject of dispute between the neighbouring states, Tamil Nadu and Kerala for a long time.
