The seizure happened as a part of a checking operation before the upcoming UP elections.
Rs 12.30 crore was seized from cash disbursement agency vans that carried the amount for filling up the ATMs.
“When stopped for checking, the staff in the vans could not produce the satisfactory documents on the source of cash. We have called the income-tax department officials and magistrate to inquire into the source of the cash, out of which R8 crore is stated to belong to several private persons,” said Raghubir Lal, senior superintendent of police (SSP).
Rs 58 lakh was seized by the police from Masuri and Rs 20 lakh from Indirpauram.
“All these seizures have been reported to income tax officials, who are inquiring into the source of cash procured,” SSP added.
