Goof-up: VIP flight operated, Air India in big trouble
The CIC acted following an Right to Information (RTI) report submitted by Mr Subhash Agarwal who first approached the Information Commission with his query and later the CIC delivered the case in Mr Agarwal's favour.
According to sources, Air India operated a special flight for the family of Aviation Minister, Praful Patel who wanted to travel from Bangalore to Male in special Business Class. Citing the inadequate number of VIP planes carrying enough business class seats, the national carrier operated the special VIP plane.
However, Air India had refused to clarify the information about who gave order to operate the special aircraft and who were the passengers who had travelled from Bangalore to Male in Apr 2011. Now, it will be interesting to see whether the national carrier will give complete details behind its decision of operating the special flight or it again will skip the order claiming that all information were confidential.
