Musharraf to face court trial; back to Pak on Jan 25 or 27

Islamabad, Jan 6: Former Pakistan President Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf has made it clear that he would land in Pakistan on January 25 or 27.

Musharraf, who has been in self-imposed exile said that he is ready to face the court trial. Musharraf has also expressed hope that he would be acquitted after two to three court hearings.

The former President announced that he would be accompanied by about 500 to 600 people all over the world on his return to Pakistan.

Musharraf has been wanted for trial by the Pakistan anti-terrorism court over the accusation that he failed to save former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto from being assassinated in Dec 2007. Musharraf served as the President of Pakistan from 2001 to 2008.

Musharraf's return is expected to give a boost to his party - All Pakistan Muslim League. Earlier, on Jan 2, the new vice-chairman of Imran Khan's party - Tehrik-e-Insaf party, Shah Mahmood Qureshi indicated that Khan's party may ally with All Pakistan Muslim League as there was a possibility for an early election in Pakistan.
